In honor of Google’s pending name change to Topeka (cf. http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2010/04/different-kind-of-company-name.html), Business Power Network is proud to announce that we plan to change our name to The S.M.A.R.T.E.R. Chapter of BNI. The acronym, of course, stands for Springfield Metropolitan Area Referral Team (which will make us all) Even Richer.

Other names are also under consideration, however, each of them potentially has drawbacks:  Springfield Bizzness Connection (you have to say it with an Ozarks drawl), Mafia Wars HITmen of the MOB (too wordy), and Fred (which was chosen simply for it’s simplicity, and also because you just don’t hear that name much anymore, gosh darn it!). The last selection is problematic  mostly because certain chapter members will be inclined to break out into song during our meetings. (“Flintstones, meet dem Flintstones!”)

A final vote on the name change will take place at our closed meeting next Tuesday, April 6th. Members, please be sure that you’re present at the meeting. Every vote counts!
