Member Profile: Jamie Auten, Balancing Kneads

Balancing KneadsMassage is all about touch — after all, the skin is the body’s largest organ. The benefits of touch when applied through massage can not only affect every area of the body, but can also help with non-physical things such as migraines and even depression. So, you could say Jamie Auten of Balancing Kneads is “licensed to feel”! She may not have her 00- license (yet, though she IS proficient in mixed martial arts), but she does have her NCBTMB certification, as well as being licensed by the state of Missouri.

NCBTMB stands for the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork, which is an independent, private, nonprofit organization that was founded in 1992 to establish a certification program and uphold a national standard of excellence, much more stringent that your typical state licensing requirements. As part of her membership in the NCBTMB, Jamie continually improves her massage and therapeutic skills through education and training. Jamie is also a profesional member of the AMTA (American Massage Therapy Association).

What does all that mean? It means that Jamie is very good at what she does! She receives testimonials almost weekly from satisfied clients both in and through Business Power Network. As she joined our group right about the same time she opened her doors for business five years ago, we have had a front-row opportunity to see Jamie grow, not only as a massage therapist, but as a businessperson and as an individual. I’m sure we’d all agree that it has been a mutually-beneficial association!

Jamie’s philosophy: “My goal as a therapist is to nurture the body, mind, and soul connection, help facilitate the body’s own healing powers, and bring the body back to it’s optimal function.” She works particularly well with athletes, of any skill level, helping them both prepare for, and recover from, strenuous workouts — something that she herself is very familiar with.  When she’s not “on duty”, Jamie practices the afore-mentioned mixed martial arts with her three boys, runs, and attends classes at Sumit Hot Yoga.

Jamie Auten, Balancing KneadsResearch continues to show the enormous benefits of touch—which range from treating chronic diseases, neurological disorders, and injuries, to alleviating the tensions of modern lifestyles. In her rare down-time, Jamie likes reading, drawing, and music, and even gets her own massages occasionally. Here you see her dreaming of what it would be like to be on the receiving end of a true Balancing Kneads massage. 🙂 If you’d like to experience that for yourself, call (417) 881-5353 to set up an appointment!
